Ford’s revival of the Taurus nameplate for 2010 has received plenty of acclaim. The new sedan is far better than the outgoing Five Hundred/Taurus in nearly every regard. But one area in which the Taurus truly shines is safety according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The new 2010 Ford Taurus has just been named a “Top Safety Pick” and earned a five-star rating, largely due to its crash-protection and for its crash-avoidance technologies. Many of the Taurus’ safety features are the same ones found on higher-end vehicles, which helps make the Taurus a particularly great value for families.
In addition to a slew of new safety features, the 2010 Ford Taurus features a new chassis and stiffer body structure that also contributed to its stellar safety performance. Its safety features include dual-stage front airbags, a Ford exclusive Safety Canopy curtain airbag system, electronic stability control, and it features cross-car beams that provide additional strength along the sides of the car. The new Taurus even features a blind spot monitoring system to help prevent collisions.
Acquiring the coveted five-star crash rating and Top Safety Pick rating from the NHTSA will no doubt give the new 2010 Ford Taurus a substantial advantage in the family sedan segment. As Ford racks up the accolades, the new Taurus is quickly becoming the benchmark that domestic and Japanese competitors need to measure up to.
