The team at Steeda Autosports has been developing high-performance, Ford-only vehicles, parts and accessories for more than 20 years, racking up more race wins and championships than Ford aftermarket specialists like Saleen, Roush and Shelby—combined. With that kind of experience, it’s no surprise that Steeda’s 2011 Sport Edition Mustang GT is another impressive performer; what may be a shock, on the other hand, is that the newest Steeda ‘Stang is also an impressive value.
Boasting a sticker price below $40,000, the car builds on the already strong performance credentials of the 2011 Mustang GT and ups the ante considerably.
Added Steeda goodies include sport springs for improved ride and handling, an aero hood that helps cool the engine, a rear wing for increased downforce, 20-inch Steeda Nitro wheels wrapped in Nitto performance rubber and aggressive “Sidewinder” graphics. Plus, after delivery, retail customers also get a Steeda cold air intake and SCT Xcal3 tuner, pushing the power in the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 from 412 horses up to a full 450.
And if you want an idea of how much attention to detail Steeda puts into its high-quality products, just consider that cold air intake. Although the company acknowledges that the Ford intake system is “an excellent piece, one of the best ever to come out of Dearborn,” Steeda wanted to meet the needs of the hard-core enthusiast. This meant incorporating features like a high-flow nano-fiber air filter, a race-tested velocity-stack intake and a stainless-steel heat shield, but also ensuring the system is compatible with both the Mustang’s factory sound tube—to maintain that hallmark Ford V8 sound—and the car’s stock lower cold-air scoop for an even cooler, denser air charge.
