In-car Internet connectivity isn’t a particularly new technology. For that past few years this technology has been available, but in most applications it provides a mobile hot spot and little else. However, Ford’s development of its SYNC infotainment system will add the functionality that other Internet-equipped vehicles seem to be lacking.

Ford’s SYNC is already a sought over feature for its ability to connect to smart phones and deliver important information such as traffic alerts, vehicle status, and news updates. But soon, it will also be compatible with popular Internet applications, such as the Pandora music service.

“The Internet has been tuned to zero miles per hour,” said Prasad in a CNET interview.

Ford’s Senior technology leader K. Venkatesh Prasad recently said that the automaker is working to offer a greater breadth of services for the car, while also enabling the driver and passengers to interact with such systems safely.
