The presidential council on exports under President Obama is tasked with boosting U.S. exports by 50 percent over the next five years. Among the industry leaders and politicians that have been invited to join the council will be Ford’s CEO, Alan Mulally.

Named to the council by President Obama yesterday, Mulally’s role will be to offer advice on how to promote U.S. exports, jobs and growth. The export council was originally created in 1973 by executive order.

“My administration has worked to improve advocacy for our exporters, remove trade barriers and enforce trade rules in an effort to ensure that the benefits of global trade are broadly shared. And to build on the progress we’ve made so far, I’ve appointed these accomplished men and women to serve in these important roles. I am confident that their depth of experience in the private sector will be valuable as we continue working to open new markets for American goods, boost our exports and level the playing field for American workers,” Obama said in a statement.

Mulally joins other respected business and labor leaders on the council including Boeing Co. President and CEO W. James McNerney Jr. and Xerox Corp. CEO Ursula Burns.
