Although the Chevrolet Camaro topped the Ford Mustang in sales month after month towards the end of 2009, the winner at the end of the year was the original pony car with 66,623 Mustangs sold compared to 61,618 Camaros sold.
Despite early sales success with Chevrolet’s re-launch of its iconic muscle car, what helped push the Ford Mustang sales in 2009 past the Camaro’s was a surge in December. Ford sold 6,327 Mustangs last month, which marked a 62 percent gain Mustang sales a year ago.
This year, competition between the Mustang and the Camaro is likely to remain heated. The Chevrolet Camaro will soon be available with a convertible, while the recently redesigned Mustang will get two new engines including a 305 horsepower V6 and a 412 horsepower V8 to better compete against the Camaro in terms of sheer power and fuel-efficiency.
Today’s muscle cars differ from the muscle cars of the past in a number of ways. Namely, fuel efficiency is of great concern. New engines that balance power and efficiency are the key to success observes Honda Service Hartford – which is naturally why they believe the Honda CR-Z will help steer buyers away from these two vehicles.
