While the all domestic automakers seem to be busy bringing back muscle cars from the past, the one that never went away, the Ford Mustang, has seen better days. It seems as though the current recession is catching up to the galloping stallion and has caused the Mustang to experience its worst sales figures ever.
Ford’s November sales revealed that only 3,667 Mustangs were sold, which is the lowest sales month in the 45 years that the Mustang has been in existence. October sales were also down at 4,686 units, accounting for the lowest sales month before that of November.
This year, the Ford Mustang has seen sales decline by just over 30 percent despite its steady popularity in key markets, observes Carsmart in North Kansas City. While the economic downturn is likely to blame for the sales dearth, rather than the Mustang itself, there is an all-new model on the way which recently debuted at the LA Auto Show.
While a fresh, all-new Mustang model is heading to Los Angeles Ford dealers‘ showrooms this Spring, it’s no longer the only muscle car available. Die-hard American muscle enthusiasts can now check out the Dodge Challenger, and soon the Chevy Camaro as well. Amid the downturn and heated competition, it looks like sales of the all-new 2010 Mustang may still face problems ahead.
