Ford is marking the 100th anniversary of the Model T, one of the most iconic vehicles in Ford’s long history. The Ford Model T was a low-priced vehicle that made owning a car possible for the majority of Americans. While some celebrate the Model T, Ford is struggling to satisfy consumers a century after the T’s introduction.
With consumers changing their buying habits, thanks to sky-high gas prices, the masses no longer want gas guzzling trucks and SUVs, which Ford has become synonymous with in recent years. Although the F-150 and Expedition were previously big sellers, they’re now hurting Ford more than they’re helping. In fact, Ford will be cutting even more truck production to allocate more resources toward small car production.

When Ford’s Model T was introduced, it made the automobile a product that was available to everyone, not just the super wealthy. Since then, Ford’s popularity changed somewhat and sales for the automaker have forced it to sell off brands, including Jaguar, Land Rover, and Aston Martin, and have also caused Ford to idle assembly plants and cutback on production.
Ford had immense success with the Model T because it was an affordable car for the masses. With trucks and SUVs becoming extremely unaffordable, Ford is realizing that a Model T-like model is crucial to regain its foothold in the US market, which is exactly why more compacts and smaller vehicles are coming down the pipeline at the automaker. As it is, many Ford dealers are also seeing greater value in pushing used cars, such as Used Cars Richmond dealers. In this example, much of their advertisements are pushing Richmond used cars sales rather than pushing their new Ford inventory. The same trend can also be seen among used cars Denver dealers.
Between poor sales of current Ford models, and an increasing push towards used vehilce inventory, many dealers are seeing the current sales trends as a time for change. And, if Ford doesn’t make things happen, the may find them selves losses
