Ford Ranked Among ‘Most Innovative’ Companies

by Ford in the News on February 19, 2010

What does Ford have in common with Google and Apple? Well, according to Fast Company, the Ford Motor Company is one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies when it comes to mobile technology, sharing the list with a slew of familiar tech companies.

Fast Company editors specifically cited Ford’s SYNC infotainment system for taking a “great leap forward” in mobile-services. Not only has Ford’s collaboration with Microsoft on its SYNC system improved upon existing in-car communications, but Ford also introduced MyFord Touch, which expands upon SYNC and delivers a graphical, touch, and voice-controlled user interface.

“This honor represents Ford’s commitment to innovation and development of technology that enhances the driving experience and adds real value to the consumer,” said Mark Fields, Ford president, The Americas. “We’re very proud of this recognition from Fast Company, and it is truly an accomplishment to be named amongst some of the leading technology innovators and mobile application developers.”

MyFord Touch was recently announced at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The system not only improves in-car communications and entertainment, but will also improve safety thanks to its hands-free, voice-controlled functionality. This new system will soon be available throughout the Ford lineup, including on the all-new 2011 Ford Edge crossover.

Not only does Ford’s SYNC system provide advanced in-car mobile-services in its own right, but soon third-party developers will have the chance to create applications for the system as well. Among the first applications to be featured on the MyFord Touch platform is Pandora, the world’s most popular Internet radio service.
