According to a Houston Ford Dealer, Ford is the latest automaker to bring its automotive design language to the world of bicycling. At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford unveiled a surprising concept called the E-Bike, which further demonstrates the spectrum of Ford’s electric mobility competence.
Ford has no plans to produce the E-Bike, so you won’t find them at Kansas City Ford Dealers. But the concept shows that the Blue Oval is actively studying many different types of potential mobility solutions. With a full charge, this electrified bicycle is capable of traveling up to 50 miles. The concept also features cutting-edge sensor technology from the world of Formula One racing with top-of-the-range bicycle components.
“The E-Bike market is growing very, very rapidly, with some 30 million units sold globally last year,” said Axel Wilke, director, vehicle personalization, Ford Customer Service Division Europe. “We see E-Bikes as an important element of urban electric mobility. More and more people are using E‑Bikes for short distance commuting and they are becoming comfortable with the concept of electric mobility.”
Magnetostrictive sensor technology is incorporated into the E-Bike in order to harness kinetic energy, while still maintaining a maintenance-free design. Aiken Ford tells us this technology has long been used in racing, but this is the first time this technology has been applied to the bicycle industry. A handlebar-mounted display provides trip information and allows the rider to select from three support modes — Economy, Comfort and Sport.
Wilke added, “With its cutting edge design, cross-gender appeal, robust build quality and high performance drive package, we believe the Ford E-Bike Concept would be the perfect addition to the e‑mobility solutions we will offer.”
