Ford Motor Company continues to develop innovative technology and pursue green initiatives. The all-new MyFord Touch system seems to combine both objectives by helping drivers choose the most fuel-efficient routes.

Utilizing real-time data and fuel-efficiency performance, MyFord Touch will go far beyond most map-based navigation systems and help drivers get the most miles per gallon. If maximizing MPG is a substantial concern for drivers, they may select the system’s “Eco-Route” feature which doesn’t merely map the shortest route to the driver’s destination like most systems, but takes MPG into consideration.

MyFord Touch fuel economy history

“When drivers use Eco-Route – particularly in combination with MyFord Touch’s fuel-economy feedback and fuel-efficient driving techniques – they can achieve a noticeable increase in fuel efficiency,” said Jennifer Brace-Mezigian, Ford user interface design engineer.

MyFord Touch will be available beginning this summer on the updated 2011 Ford Edge crossover. By helping choose the most eco-friendly route, the U.S. Energy Information Administration expects drivers can save an EPA-estimated 15 percent in fuel economy. Although mileage varies depending on the drive, Ford not only is dedicated to producing vehicles with higher MPG, but the automaker also remains committed to helping drivers execute eco-driving techniques as well.

These days, all automakers are committed to lowering fleet-wide fuel economy. While some offering smaller cars like the Ford Fiesta or Nissan Versa Auburn WA are essential, technology is playing an increasing role. Not only are new powertrains being developed, but technology such as MyFord Tough are geared at improving drivers as well.
