The redesigned 2010 Ford Mustang received ample praise for its handsome new looks and for its range of updated features. But despite the all-new design the Mustang still featured the same engines from the previous model year. To appease enthusiasts eager for more excitement under the hood, Ford will be revealing their new powertrains at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
Although the 2011 Ford Mustang won’t be arriving earlier than March of 2010, many Mustang fans are eager to see the specs of the latest engines. Rumors have been brewing surrounding the new engines, which are important considering the intense competition from other domestic and import sports cars such as the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro, and Nissan 370Z.
Each year the LA Auto Show has successfully played an increasingly important venue for product launches and announcements suggests Ithaca Ford. That’s exactly why last year was used to debut the 2010 Ford Mustang.
Reports suggest that the 2011 Mustang will receive two new engines. First will be a 3.7-liter Duratec V6 for the base model, which is expected to produce far more horsepower than the current 4.0-liter unit. New York Ford dealers stress that the smaller displacement will be advantageous for fuel mileage due to reduced weight. Additionally, the GT will receive a 5.0-liter V8. Dubbed the “Coyote” V8, this engine is expected to deliver about 400 horsepower. Rumors suggest a twin turbocharged version of the Coyote engine will be used to power the upcoming GT500.
The engine replacements will be the biggest change to the Mustang lineup says Owego Ford dealers, but for 2011 the Pony car will also receive a new Track Pack which will provide tighter suspension, larger brakes, and performance oriented Pirelli tires.
