Since launching the SYNC infotainment system, which has become increasingly available throughout the entire Ford lineup, it has been added to more than 2 million Ford Motor Company vehicles. With the recent improvements to the system, and its wider availability, it’s likely that the popularity of SYNC will continue to grow.
The SYNC system was developed with the help of Microsoft to compete with similar systems on the market, such as GM’s OnStar. The unique advantage of this system was that it enabled drivers to control a number of functions with completely handsfree operation.
“The success of SYNC proves that customers want to be connected,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president of U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “The speed with which we’ve hit the 2 million mark, the premium SYNC adds at auction, and the improvements in purchase consideration show that it is a true differentiator for us, adding real value for the customer.”
In addition to its increasingly popularity on new vehicles, used car buyers are also drawn to SYNC-equipped for models. According to some analysts, late model Ford vehicles equipped with the system hold their value more than models than don’t have Sync.
Recently, Ford announced improvements the system that included MyFord Touch. These improvements enable increased functionality with the help of third-party application developers. Among the applications Ford has already demonstrated on the system are Pandora, a popular streaming music application, and OpenBeak, which is a mobile client for posting updates and reading messages on Twitter.
