When it debuts later this year, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric will help drivers battle high fuel prices as the most efficient five-seat vehicle in America, and it will bring even more benefits to California owners: In addition to its EPA rating of 110 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) in city driving, Ford’s all-electric Focus is now eligible for driver-only travel in California’s high-occupancy vehicle lanes, usually reserved for carpoolers, and also qualifies for a $2,500 state tax credit. That means Golden State customers can slash the price of the Focus Electric by a full $10,000 when the federal tax credit of $7,500 is taken into account. [click to continue…]
The redesigned 2013 Ford Escape already was set to play a starring role in the Blue Oval’s high-quality vehicle lineup, and now it’s going to do the same thing for two different television networks: Beginning March 31, the Ford Escape will be in the spotlight in a new reality TV show called “Escape Routes.” According to Covington Ford, the program was developed by Ford and eight-time Emmy-award-winning television producer Elise Doganieri, and it will follow six two-person teams as they compete in a variety of challenges during an epic road trip—while driving new Escapes. Leveraging a 1.6-lite EcoBoost engine capable of 177 hp—a 20 percent increase over the past model—the production-ready 2013 Ford Fiesta ST debuted during the recent Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. And while the newest iteration of Ford’s high-performance hatchback will only be available in a three-door configuration, Ford Dealership Kansas City said it’s the perfect illustration of how big fun can come in a little package. It looks like Ford’s brand-new full-size van will be carrying a very familiar name under the hood: The 2013 Ford Transit, set to replace the long-running E-Series next year, will feature the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that has become a flat-out hit for the Ford F-150. According to Ford Dealerships In CT, the Blue Oval sold more than 100,000 EcoBoost F-150s in 2011 alone, and remember, the engine wasn’t even made available until after the year had started. Of course, a powerplant that helps full-size pickups achieve 365 hp, 420 lb.-ft. of torque and an EPA highway rating of 22 mpg will have that kind of impact on sales. [click to continue…]
There’s an old saying that “the third time’s the charm,” and it’s one that Roger Penske will be putting to the test during the 2013 NASCAR season. New Mexico Ford Dealers said the legendary automotive entrepreneur will bring his Penske Racing team back to the Blue Oval next year, fielding a two-car squad in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, the sports highest level of competition. According to CT Ford Dealerships, Penske first campaigned Ford products in NASCAR’s motorsports competition in 1976 and 1977, then again from 1994-2002. During that time, Penske and Ford combined for 27 victories in Cup Series events and grabbed the pole position 36 times. The only achievement missing from the partnership has been a national championship, but that’s something both parties hope to rectify next year. [click to continue…]

Sometimes there are more important things than simply coming in first. For example, the Ford Focus Electric won’t be the first modern-day mass-market electric vehicle capable of carrying five people—it will just be the most efficient one. That’s because the EPA has now certified the Focus Electric as capable of an amazing 110 MPGe city/99 MPG highway/105 MPGe combined, marks that beat the Nissan LEAF by 4 MPGe/7 MPGe/6 MPGe. (“MPGe” stands for “miles per gallon equivalent,” a measure instituted by the EPA to help customers compare the efficiency of EVs with that of traditional vehicles.) [click to continue…]

According to Mike Carrozzo, chief editor of Connected World magazine, “Drivers have reached a point in which they are looking for a vehicle that is safe and reliable, and can keep them connected while on the road, just as they are able to while in the office or in their homes.”
And Indiana Ford says that’s exactly what they get in the Ford Focus, which the publication has chosen as the Connected Car of the Year in the small-car category. Thanks to the available SYNC with MyFord Touch system—with its advanced natural voice-recognition technology that can process more than 10,000 commands—the Focus excelled in meeting all three of the magazine’s judging criteria for:
- Safety, including active safety features as well as measures to support distraction-free driving
- Convenience, focusing on functionality that provides remote access to vehicle, traffic and navigation info, and other driver-assistance programs
- The specific ability to provide information to the driver in a distraction-free manner through, for example, the ability to stream content from the Internet, easily pair devices to the vehicle’s connectivity systems, and support overall Web connectivity
“The Ford Focus sets a high bar in the small [car] category when it comes to connectivity with MyFord Touch and SYNC,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Connected World magazine. “They just keep getting better and better. No other car in its class comes close to offering such a high level of safety, convenience and infotainment. Techies and non-techies alike are enjoying this connected ride.”
