During his time at Ford, Alan Mulally has seen it all. The automaker was bleeding cash, faced plunging sales, and at one point was on verge of accepting a government bailout. But thanks in part to quick cost-cutting, a rejuvenated product lineup, and even a rekindling of innovation, Ford not only navigated through a potentially disastrous period, but is now making plenty of cash and is quickly earning a reputation as one of the most innovative companies.
By turning things around at Ford since his arrival from Boeing in 2006, Mulally has proven himself to be a highly competent chief executive. But it’s due to these accomplishments that his old employer may want him back.
A new website at BringBackAlan.com has popped up recently pleading for Mualally’s return to Boeing.
“Now that’s he’s fixed Ford, let’s get Alan Mulally back to Boeing where he’s REALLY needed,” reads the introduction to the website.
In the background of the site is an image of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner – an aircraft that has been delayed a five times. With his track record for turning seemingly helpless situations around, perhaps Mulally really could be the missing link in Boeing’s woes.
Although there’s been no official comment from Boeing regarding the website, there has been from Ford.
“We understand how they feel,” said Ford spokeswoman Karen Hampton. “But we’re looking forward to his leadership at Ford for years to come.”
