Video: 2011 Ford Explorer Stretches Its Legs In The Sand

The all-new 2011 Ford Explorer may be more car-like than ever before, but it hasn’t lost its ruggedness. To highlight its advanced all-wheel drive system, Ford brought the Explorer to San Diego where it demonstrated just how confident it was when there wasn’t any pavement in sight.

Unlike previous generations, the 2011 Explorer is built off a front-drive unibody architecture. While some could suggest that this isn’t ideal for off roading, Ford contests that the new CUV’s AWD system combined with its all-new Terrain Management System delivers exceptional off-road capabilities and traction in all terrain – aside from hardcore rock crawling, of course.

At the “San Diego Vision” media event, Ford proved that the car-like Explorer is equally comfortable playing in the dirt as it is traversing paved highways. See for yourself via the video below.
